About
Always a big fan of music, Steve Martin started out by hosting a college radio show in 2001 on KSPC 88.7 FM Claremont. He later moved to KPFK 90.7 FM in 2003 and has been hosting a weekly radio show there ever since as well as being an engineer at KPCC 89.3 FM for “All Things Considered”. The idea of starting a record label has always been in the forefront of his mind, however the task seemed too daunting.
Over the years the love of the DIY and the homegrown, lesser known, talent of Los Angeles has grown to such an extent that the desire to put out some of this great music has become a necessity. So here we are in 2010 with the birth of Culdesac Kids. With the simple ideology behind it that we all had when we were kids, that a good time is a good time, and good music is simply put good music. When you discovered a song you really liked, it made you happy for weeks or months even. Be it something your friend showed you or you heard on the radio, or even a tape you found in the bargain bin at the record store. You won’t find any of the pretension or exclusivity that comes with so called maturity here. Culdesac Kids is about sharing the music we love with our friends because we love it, not because we think we can make money off of it. We will be starting out with records, specifically 7-inch singles to get some of our favorite bands out there. There are plans to move into Cd’s and maybe even tapes in the near future, but enough about the business end of things. We are here to have fun and share our love of music with you.
Be on the look out for our debut releases from Sunshine Factory and Torches in Trees as we plan out more exciting and fun things to share with our friends.
